Da Nang's roads are wide and traffic is light, so getting around is easy. Choosing the right transport saves both money and energy, especially for Ba Na, Hoi An or the Hai Van Pass.
Contents
Compared with many tourist cities, Da Nang is praised for its traffic: wide, clean roads and many bridges across the Han River. However, the sights are spread out in all directions – Ba Na to the west, Hoi An to the south, Hai Van to the north – so choosing your transport matters.
Transport compared
| Option | Pros | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Self-drive motorbike | Cheap, flexible, easy photo stops | Couples, young groups with riding experience |
| Taxi, ride-hailing | Convenient, everywhere, clear fares | Getting around the city, airport |
| Private car with driver | Your own schedule, safe, air-conditioned | Families, groups of 4–16, Ba Na, Hoi An, Hue |
| Join-in tour | Transport, tickets and guide in one | First-timers, solo travellers, small groups |
Renting a motorbike in Da Nang
- Guide price: around 100,000 – 150,000 VND/day for a standard manual or scooter; premium scooters cost more.
- Many shops deliver to your hotel; a deposit or ID is usually required.
- Photograph the bike before taking it, and check brakes, lights and fuel.
- A helmet and a valid licence are mandatory.
Safety note: the roads up Son Tra (Ban Co Peak) and the Hai Van Pass are very steep with hairpin bends. If you're not used to mountain roads, take a car or a tour. Don't ride in rain, thick fog or after dark.
Private car with driver
This is the favourite choice of families and groups. Hire per trip (airport transfer, Ba Na, Hoi An, Hue) or per day, in 4-, 7-, 16-seat or larger vehicles. Local drivers know the roads, the best photo stops and good places to eat. See vehicles and route prices on Annest Travel car rental.
Scenic roads worth driving

- Hai Van Pass: about 20 km of mountain road between peaks and sea, with the Hai Van Gate at the top – see our Hai Van Pass guide.
- Son Tra Peninsula: the coastal Hoang Sa road and the climb to Ban Co Peak for a city panorama.
- Vo Nguyen Giap – Truong Sa – Lac Long Quan coast road: along the sea from My Khe to Hoi An.
- The roads to Ba Na and Than Tai Mountain: through the green countryside of Hoa Vang.
Taxis and ride-hailing
Grab, Xanh SM and traditional taxi companies cover the whole city. From the airport to the centre takes only 10–15 minutes. A one-way taxi to Hoi An or Ba Na is convenient too, but arrange your return ride in advance if coming back late.
